So it was exactly one year ago today that my family and I woke up in a 14th floor hotel room at the DIA Westin. A couple of short hours later we boarded a plane and began our great adventure. I said goodbye to the city I love and got a little weepy as I imagined my mountains fading off into the distance.

I miss home.

But this year has brought an extraordinary amount of meaning to our lives. We have been to four different countries on two different continents. We have plans in 2018 to visit Italy, France and to take more road trips within Germany and Austria. We'll probably hop on a train and go to Switzerland at some point too. We've also seen artworks by Raphael painted a couple short years after Columbus discovered North America. Think about that.

This grand adventure has been filled with challenges and difficulties that we've faced head on, and it's brought us closer together as a family. I wouldn't trade the past year for anything.

But I miss home. Denver sure sent us away with a beautiful going away present.

Sunsets in Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado are often stunningly brilliant.  Like tremendous and overstimulating.  The saturation here was actually toned down a little bit.

We'll do three in a row from Denver, because why not.  Maybe I'm feeling homesick.  This photo of the Tivoli Center Building was taken from a parking garage on the 16th Street Mall.  The sunset was stunning.  I have never seen such vibrant pink color as was in the clouds a few minutes after the images for this photo were taken.

In addition, the foothills of the Rocky Mountains are present in all of their beauty.  Layer after layer, of increasing altitude.  My playground.

This is one of many pictures I have taken in Rocky Mountain National Park.  I consider it to be my home turf (even though I'm now on a different continent).  I am still aware of what's going on back home though, and I vehemently disagree with the proposal to more than double the park entrance fee.  I get that our government can't fund their way out of a paper bag, but this move will deprive citizens of one of their most basic human needs...to get out, be in, and immerse oneself in Nature.  This potential move is wrong.

Happy Thanksgiving!
